Medicare Supplement Plans,
Side by Side

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans fill the gaps in Original Medicare — deductibles, co-insurance, and copays. The plans are standardized across carriers, so Plan G from one company covers the same as Plan G from another. The only thing that varies between carriers is price and service.

Here are the most common options and how they compare.

Most Popular

Plan G

$100–$300/mo

Everything except the Part B deductible (about $257 in 2025). After that, most services are 100% covered.

Best for

The standard choice for new Medicare enrollees who want maximum coverage.

Lower Premium

Plan N

$80–$200/mo

Same as Plan G except: $20 copay per office visit, $50 ER copay (waived if admitted), and doesn't cover Part B excess charges.

Best for

Healthier enrollees who want lower monthly cost and can handle occasional copays.

Pre-2020 Only

Plan F

$130–$350/mo

Covers absolutely everything — including the Part B deductible. Not available to anyone who became Medicare-eligible after 2020.

Best for

People already on Plan F who became eligible before 2020 and want first-dollar coverage.

Lowest Premium

High Deductible G

$40–$80/mo

Plan G benefits but you pay a high deductible first ($2,870 in 2025). After that, full coverage like Plan G.

Best for

People who rarely visit doctors and want the lowest possible premium with catastrophic protection.

Coverage at a Glance

Standardized across every carrier. Plan G from Carrier A covers identically to Plan G from Carrier B — only price varies.

High Deductible Plan G deductible in 2025

The trade-off for HDG's much lower premium. You pay the first $2,870 in covered costs each year before the plan kicks in — then it pays like a regular Plan G.

About these rates: Premiums vary widely by state, age, gender, tobacco use, and carrier. The ranges above are typical 2025 examples for a non-smoker enrolling at 65. Get specific quotes for your situation — Plan G from one carrier might cost $130/mo while another carrier prices the same plan at $250/mo for the exact same coverage.
